Way overdue on this comment, but I was just listening to his song "Be."
It is undeniably Christian, even if it was written for a hokie movie.

I saw him in a news pix for a up coming concert and he was asked about Pretty Amazing Grace. It's regarding a female friend name Mary. Not on any religous feeling. Keep praying, maybe Mary is Christian and he sees Christ in her.

What a beautiful song!!! It sounds to be that Neil has had a personal experience with the Lord from listening to Amazing Grace. I pray he has because I've loved his music for many, many years and I love the Lord so to know he's found the Lord would make everything perfect.

No matter what it's about it's a great song, but I just read a
commentary that Neil is John the Baptist? Is that possible? http://www.cootiehog.com/?p=4390

I have enjoyed his music for nearly forty years. He came to Ottawa a few years ago and it was an amazing concert. He still has it!
WRT Pretty Amazing Grace, it seems very clear, based on the lyrics, that he has found the grace that God has provided through His Son Jesus Christ.

I've listened the song 3 times. It's hard to know, but the lyrics "stumbled into your chapel" and the lines following it really seem to indicate a spiritual grace from God that he is thankful for rather than a romantic relationship.

Checked the lyrics of this fabulous song ... I can see why you'd say it's about a woman, but everything cries out it's about seeking, losing and finding a relationship with God.
At the end of the day, it's a message he's putting out there; the recipient will know who they are!

Neil Diamond is the epidomy of American music. He also is a "homie" of mine coming from the streets of Brooklyn in the 50's. "Pretty Amazing Grace" is a pretty amazing song. I know that Christians mean well when they say they hope that he has become a christian. However, let us remember that the God Israel is the source of all love, hope, and grace. The God of Israel transcends all denominations, both christian and Jewish.
Is it a spiritual experience that Neil is singing about? That is between him and the God of his fathers. Leave it at that unless he comes forward with an explanation.

"Pretty Amazing Grace" is a great song! He did a great job on Idol. Long time since I've heard from Neal Diamond, but he's still got it. Look for this one to find legs.
